Project/ Design Achievement: The second stage of Chelmer Residence includes new internal layout, new kitchen and bathroom to the upper level and a granny-flat, new bathroom & laundry to lower level. This brick veneer 3 bedroom house was built in 1970s, and like the most of old houses in Brisbane, it had a lack of storage space and rooms for the growing family. Existing house had a 8sqm entry porch to the upper level which had become a redundant space. The proposed has turned the porch into the internal space to gain extra floor space.

Existing house: Internal space – approx. 80sqm (Exc.garage)

  • Upper level: 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 ensuite, wardrobe to master bedroom, no linen space, kitchen with no pantry
  • Lower level: an open space with a garage and laundry

After Renovation: Combined internal space – approx 151sqm (Exc.garage)

  • Upper level: 3 bedrooms with wardrobe to all bedrooms, 1 main bathroom, a full height linen cupboard, new kitchen with a full height pantry
  • Lower level: 1 garage, a granny flat with a kitchenette, 1 bathroom, a laundry with cupboards, a separate office
